Energy

Within the United States and abroad the demand for alternative fuels is increasing.  This demand is driven, in part, by governmental policy as public officials seek ways to reduce reliance on foreign energy imports, promote cleaner air, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  The 2007 Energy Act mandates significant quantities of bio-fuel, as much as twenty percent of U.S. Transportation fuel by 2022.  Policymakers want additional avenues for bio-fuel utilization, including increasing the current EPA 10% ethanol ceiling for non-flex fuel equipment. While overall additional utilization provides a very positive development for Deere, it also poses challenges for our gas powered equipment.  A much preferred course of action is to expand usage of high technology blender pumps utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to guard against mis-fuelling.  John Deere will continue to work with Congress, the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute, Department of Energy, and EPA on utilization issues.
